ChainGrid is an innovative, swipe-based word search puzzle that merges the spatial reasoning of a traditional word search with the satisfying tactile mechanics of modern mobile games. Instead of guessing a single hidden word, you must untangle a dense grid of letters by finding and swiping across multiple intertwined words.
What sets ChainGrid apart is its dynamic physics engine. When you successfully trace a word by dragging your mouse or finger across adjacent letters (up, down, left, right, or diagonally), those letters explode in a burst of confetti and disappear. The remaining letters then yield to gravity, falling downward to fill the empty spaces and creating entirely new letter combinations.
This means the board is constantly evolving. A word that wasn't visible at the start of the level might suddenly form after you clear the tiles above it. If you ever get stuck, you can use built-in hints, or look up unfamiliar words in the Smotix Dictionary.

How to Play & Rules
Step-by-Step Guide
Look at the grid of jumbled letters and scan for valid English words (minimum 3 letters).
Click and drag (or tap and swipe on mobile) across adjacent letters to form the word.
You can swipe horizontally, vertically, or diagonally—and you can change directions mid-word!
Release your swipe to submit the word. If valid, the tiles will disappear.
Watch as the remaining letters fall down to fill the gaps, and continue finding words until the board is completely clear.
Core Rules
- ▸Words must be at least 3 letters long to be valid.
- ▸You can only connect letters that are touching (including diagonally).
- ▸You cannot reuse the exact same tile twice within a single swipe.
- ▸The goal is to clear 100% of the tiles from the board.

Difficulty Curve
Progressive. Early levels are dense with easy 3-and-4-letter words. However, as you advance, the game will require you to find massive 7+ letter words, and you will need to clear them in a specific order to prevent leaving stranded, unsolvable tiles.

Pro Strategies
Look for the longest words first. Clearing a massive 8-letter word is usually required to solve the puzzle without leaving stranded tiles.
Pay attention to the top corners. Tiles in the top corners rarely move, so if you see a word there, clear it out!
Think before you swipe! If you see two words, calculate how the board will shift if you clear Word A vs Word B. Sometimes clearing a small word will ruin the spelling of a larger word below it.
Quick Tips
- You can swipe backwards! A word spells the same thing whether you trace it from the first letter or the last letter.
- Don't forget diagonal swipes. Many players get stuck looking only up, down, left, and right.
- If the board feels stuck, use the 'Shuffle' or 'Hint' power-ups to reveal a path forward.
Pitfalls
Avoid: Swiping the very first 3-letter word you see without looking at the rest of the board. This often destroys longer, required words.
Avoid: Leaving a single vowel stranded at the bottom of the board with a bunch of consonants on top of it.
