Wordle Hard Mode Rules & Strategy Tips

Learn how to survive Hard Mode constraints without falling into structural letter traps like _IGHT or _OUND.

1. The Golden Rule of Hard Mode

In Hard Mode, any revealed hints (Green correct letters and Yellow misplaced letters) MUST be included in all subsequent guesses. You cannot sacrifice a turn to test 5 brand-new letters if doing so violates a revealed hint.

2. Beware of Rhyme Traps

The biggest danger in Hard Mode is hitting a word family with many matching letters early on—such as _IGHT (NIGHT, LIGHT, RIGHT, MIGHT, SIGHT, TIGHT, FIGHT). Because you are forced to lock in -IGHT on every turn, you can run out of 6 attempts before eliminating all candidate prefix consonants.
